For nearly 50 years, Jim Martin has been a licensed optician. As owner of Medina Optical, he has served patients alongside Dr. McMillan for over 25 years. He is an expert at helping patients select the right shape, color and style of frames. And he has expertise with advanced lens design, prescription sunglasses, and also sports eyewear for all ages.
“I have always enjoyed the fashion industry,” he explains. “Glasses are one of the first things you see on a person, so I believe our eyewear should make a statement. I help people select a frame that fits their personality and complements their facial features. It also has to suit their lifestyle.”
Jim takes great pride in seeking out the best quality, handmade frames for his shop. “Some people only wear glasses because they have to. I try to change that mindset. I want them to be excited to put on their glasses and to feel it’s an accessory that makes them look better!”
Jim says the most rewarding part of his job is when patients return and say things like, “This is the best pair of glasses I’ve ever had. I love them!”
In particular, he remembers one patient who was 80-years-old but still very much full of life. Jim said she’d always worn plain frames typical of her age group. “I told her it was time to make a change.”
We selected a larger, multi-colored frame. She was a bit hesitant, so I told her to take the glasses back to her retirement home and she could return them if after a few days she decided she didn’t like them. Four days later she called and said “My glasses are wonderful! I’ve been getting so many compliments on them. They express my personality. Thank you so much!”
